the old "no screens found" again w/ ati aiw 9600 128 pro

I've run slackware before (but still havn't acquired too much experience). So I recently downloaded the new 9.1, installed it without a hitch, but now cannot get the gui to load to save my life. I have a new vid card, an ati all-in-wonder 9600 128 pro. I have the h and v sync specs sent to me by the manufacturer of my monitor, and when I previously had slack installed using a different vid card the monitor specs worked fine. The whole new drivers for ati in order to get 3d doesn't matter, 2d is just fine. When I get to the select default color, 8 bit, 16 bit, and 24 bit, I think the problem probably has something to do with that. I've tried switching the resolutions around, putting "680-800" first and all that. I've ran xf86config waaaaay too many times. I'm thinking about giving up and just trying to run slack on a different computer, but I hate being defeated. So if anyone has any more suggestions or has had a problem with this card I'd really appreciate it. thanks.
