The different *unix folders :S


Just wondering what the differences and uses are these folders:

1. Difference between /bin & /sbin ?
2. Difference between /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin ?
3. What's the use of /etc ?
4. What's the difference between the folders inside / (top level) & /usr ?
5. What's the use of /var ?

Dounds like you want to read the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard which explains it all in great detail.
