Check out this howto: http://nextgen.no-ip.org/~andrew/lin...rapperinfo.php
|
Thank you so much ill follow these steps and reply if it works or not.
Switch to root using the su - command. Navigate to the folder you unzipped ndiswrapper to, using the cd command. Told you not to forget that. Once there, type make install. Answer the few questions, and ndiswrapper should compile itself. Any errors you get should be posted in a Linux forum of your choice, as there's likely something up with your system. Assuming everything went well in the make install phase, ndiswrapper has been successfully installed on your Linux box! Yay! You're 1/3 of the way there! |

I extracted ndiswrapper and clicked make install and it says : no rule to make target install.'stop' |
Are you in the directory with the source? Is there a "Makefile" in the directory?
|
i extracted the tgz file.
and cd'ed in there it looks somthing like /home/prometheus/ndiswrapper-0.9.1/ no there are just two folders usr sbin |
That's weird. You may want to attempt to extract the file again, or redownload it from the ndiswrapper homepage. I don't think that's a full build.
|
Could you give me a link to the build I should have becasue im confused about what I need to have.
|
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...icle&artid=331 should be of help. It may be written for SuSE, but much of it should carry across. Also, try our Search function - this has been asked before.
|
I saw that guide before , but Im really new to linux and i dont have SuSe, So i have no clue what those programs do and if i need them.
Plus most of it is writen for KDE im currently using gnome once i get internet i would love to go and download KDE. but my distro only comes with gnome. I had Slackware 10.1 but the current kernel build didnt work with modprobe , and im new to linux so it would be hard for me to compile a kernel so i just desided to do another distro my friend told me about saying it should work with the card then later on i will install KDE and he would guide me through. |
Ubuntu probably even has a package for ndiswrapper, which might be easier to use.
|
Alright since im new could you guide me or would that waste to much of your time.
Im totaly new to linux , I thought what better way to learn then to try and i did and it was hard for me but im willing to try anyone have a highly detailed guide or could help me please?! Tell me where to go and i could try it? |
Here is a ubuntu-specific howto for ndiswrapper: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HowToSetUpNd...ndiswrapper%29
|

1. Launch synaptic or whatever package management tool you prefer What is synaptic and how can I get it? EDIT : ok i got it su root , then type it in .. got it. Thanks ill try to follow guide if i have anymore quetions ill ask here. |
I get an error when I do this after i installed ndiswrapper
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper Fatal : Error inserting ndiswrapper (/bib/modules/2.6.10.-5-86/kernel/drivers/net/ndiswrapper/ndisprapper.ko) Operation not permited please help!!! Could someone help me It says : Call "sudo modprobe ndiswrapper" to install the needed module. Please anyone help me! |
Anyone Please?!
|
Any Please im begging ya!
|
Last time i will bump this but please anyone?!
|
as a rule of thumb you should not bump topics that quickly, usually once a day is good.
Did you install the windows drivers for your card? type ndiswrapper -l and see if it is listed. if not then make sure you have the .inf file provided by the maker of the card for the windows driver. and do an ndiswrapper -i pathtothefile.inf then try to modprobe ndiswrapper. |
I did this step
ndiswrapper -i pathtothefile.inf I know for a fact but ill try ndiswrapper -l and post back. Sorry about bump but no one was helping me. EDIT : I checked I get this Installed Drivers mn720-ankh Invalid driver! my fried said the 720 driver shoud work with my 730 card. What can i do to fix im currently using the MN-730 Model by Microsoft is there anyway to get linux to work with my card? Or I will never get to have linux and will have to go back to microsoft , my cpu is currently in my room thats why i need the wireless connection im 14 and i dont want my computer in the basement yet i want linux. |
Promotheuz, sorry I wasn't around... went home, had dinner, etc. We aren't paid tech support, you know. :)
As stated above, you just need to find the right .inf file and driver: whichever you would use in Windows. |
Thank you guys for all your help i got it to work with the right INF file i found on the driver disk thank you internet works im now on linux !
|
good news. If you have any other problems post them here and i'm 100% sure that someone here will be able to help you. Don't be afraid to ask.
