Text based Linux + Java

Hello everyone, I want to choose the right text based Linux OS for me to work on Java GUI. The size should be very small like 50MB. I would like to make a GUI which is controlled by a touch screen, so that it shows some animations and data on LCD. Do you have any recommendation for this subject?

note: I have downloaded Gentoo, Slitaz and NimbleX. Could I work on these ones, do they allow customizations like editing the black screen when system is turned on?

note2: I am also searching a microprocessor for this OS, will these text based linux have any minimum requirements?

Thanks in advance.

I think you're a bit over your head in all honestly, trying to create a graphical environment for a linux OS is a big undertaking. Have you looked at how KDE, gnome and the other GUIs work? If it makes you feel any better this would be over my head as well, I am not a programmer.

The thing I tell people is Linux is what you want it to be, think about it like a giant erector set, all the parts are there but do you have the knowledge to assemble them into what you want. Something that may also be of interest is the linux from scratch project, http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/
