How do i test negotiation between server and client for various protocols like:
ppp
pppoe
pptp
L2tp
dhcp

Seriously:
The answer is "it depends".

In general:
a) connect the appropriate hardware
b) make sure the kernel-level drivers are seeing the device (for example, "lsusb")
c) implement network-level (user space) configuration
d) verify whether the device comes on-line
e) troubleshoot whatever problem(s) might arise
f) rinse and repeat

Yes, you install them, configure them, start them and then test them. If they work, that's good, if not you start troubleshooting by looking at the error messages, logs, increasing the log detail etc. etc.

If you have good knowledge of building kernels go for it.Make research on kernels for multicore processors.
