Terrible frame rate in Xine

Hello, I just installed Slack 10.1. I got everything set up for DVD playing, I put in Shaun of the Dead. Xine comes up saying that it will play it but the frame rate will be quite bad and that my computer will run slower, I have never had this problem before in other distros. Sure enough the DVD ran horribly, bad enough to where I just closed down Xine and ejected one of my favorite films of 2004. Is there anything I can do/tweak to get this running a bit better? Thanks.

Use hdparm to set DMA for the drive. Also adjust video and audio buffers to make it perform better.

Ah, I thought it was the DMA. What's hdparm and how do I obtain it? Thanks.
