Terminal Emulator

I dont know about you but i like to use the terminal emulator while browsing directories. Can i run into problems using this rather than konsole or is this really just the same? as i find it handy when also having directories displayed.

Who or what *IS* "the Terminal Emulator"?

And what do you mean by:

when you are browsing your folders in kde you can select 'Window->Show Terminal Emulator'
which opens a small text terminal view at the bottom of the main window.

I am wondering if there is any differences between the terminal emulator and a proper terminal i.e. konsole, xterm.

I do not use kde, but my educated guess would be that
it still uses a bash-shell ;) ... just as all the others. There
may be slight differences in key-bindings, but then that's
probably as much a distro thing as it is a "terminal emulator"
thingy ...

It just opens a shell in another view under the graphical view. It's the same as opening xterm or going to the command line.
