Terminal directory in Backtrack 5 changed from "root@bt~#" to "sh-4.1#
 

I tried doing an update for a wireless device driver. I tried to change the directory to /usr/src/linux#, and it wouldn't let me. So I just let things go and thought well maybe another day. I updated to R2 and rebooted. Now when I restarted on normal start up it says /usr/src/linux# not available. Change the prompt in terminal from "root@bt~#" to "sh-4.1#". Will not let me log in on normal mode but I can get to GUI through recovery mode in GRUB. I have one Zombie process running now.

Your post isn't clear as far as what you did. You start out referring to trying to install a wireless driver and in the next sentence you have the statement . The way it is written would mean you tried to rename that/those directories. Is that what you did? Why? Or did you actually mean you tried to change to the /usr/src/linux directory using the cd command? Those directories are root:root. Were you doing this as root user? How were you trying to install the wireless drivers? Your problem now is that you CAN boot to a gui using Recovery mode but not with the standard boot entry?

That is exactly what I was doing ... trying to change the root to /usr/src/linux directory using the cd command. But I just uninstalled and now am going to do a fresh install.. Thank You.
