Ubuntu's based on Gnome, so I think you mean gnome-terminal. Usually installed X system includes at least one of simple terminal emulators, xterm or eterm. Try to launch one of them, then type gnome-terminal in it, and check error message.
If you haven't got any other terminal emulator, switch to console with Ctrl-Alt-F2, login, and try to launch gnome terminal with DISPLAY=:0.0 gnome-terminal. You can switch back to X environment by pressing Alt-F7

When "terminal is clicked"...

......it won't launch.."there was an error creating a child process for this terminal
Failed to execute child process "etc/gnome/defaults.lists" (permission denied).

Thank You.

Where did it say that?

How did you launch it?

Bright orange dialog box? And how could you open it from a terminal window if you can't open a terminal window in the first place?

Maybe you should post a screenshot.

Thanks...But...

I had re-installed Ubuntu 10.10 Marverick Meekat. I just want to know, how I can find out if the 64-bit version was installed?

Thanks again!

Or look at the iso you downloaded?
