Terminal

I cannot play video. I want to download to copy some. Where is the "Terminal?" I'm almost ready to go back to XP. Why can't this be easier?

Home many years have you been using windows products? Using Linux is like learning a new language (as in French not C). It is going to take some time.

Since Linux is pretty varied we need to know what distro and version you are running before we can really help you. Assuming you are running a gui on to of that distro we will also need to know which one (probably gnome or kde).

Chill out.

Let's take one step at a time -remember this is a completely different system with its own - different ways of doing things. If you know how to drive a car it doesn't mean you can pilot a helicopter without training!

First of all, what distribution are you using? Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE?

P.S. A couple of months ago I went into an internet cafe which only had Win XP machines with IE 7. At first I couldn't even find a bloody refresh button! Then again I hadn't used Windows since 04 and never IE7 before.

Hold down the CTRL KEY and the ALT key and thump the F1 throutgh F6 keys to go to one of those terminal sessions and do your thing, when finisded do CTRL ALT F7 to get back to the desktop.
From the desktop click on the icon that brings up the Menus and work you way through the menus to (Terminal/UXterm/xterm) and click on that to go into terminal -- when finished type exit to go back to the desktop

O'Reilly puts out a nice Linux Pocket guide
