Hostname came up with the long string so I just went to root and changed it. =)

Should be fixed with a reboot. Thanks guys.

Well, it didn't take a reboot to change the hostname but as soon as it did change, everything stopped working because of an Xlib error. Gaim, Mozilla, etc. all refused to open because of a failed server connection to "0.0". I had to change back to the old hostname.

they would have all been connecting to <hostname>:0.0 so once that changed they failed but it shouldn't be a static value. did you try changing the hostname and then restarting the applications? how about restarting the machine. you may have notived that there are a couple different cues that can be used to determine the hostname. if you change it one way the change may not (though it should) propagate.
