Angry Telnet to Port 25 to test SMTP.

I just installed Redhat 7.2 and am not familiar with all the new stuff. I want to set up SMTP and POP on my server. I'm not concerned with POP right now as I'm working on just getting mail.

I can send mail from my server outward no problem. I have removed all rules from IPCHAINS. I can telnet to the localhost port 25 proving that smtp works. When I try from another machine to telnet to port 25 I just get a message that I can't connect.

I've heard about TCP wrappers but can't find enough info to see if that is the problem. It doesn't look like it, but I'm new at this. Any ideas with resources would be nice.

Thanks ahead of time.

well, you've not said what smtp software you are using, please try and give as much info as possible. If it's sendmail, then by default it will only listen internally. check /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and follow the comments in there to get it to listen externally

That was it. Thanks a bunch.

I was using sendmail. I didn't know that was in the sendmail.mc file. Thanks a bunch. I'm looking at your site right now.
