Telnet Login problems in Fedora core 5

Hi,

I started the telnet service in fedora core 5 and made sure it is running.

In the /etc/xinetd/kbrtelnet file, it had user = root

So i tried to login from a CentOS 5 machine by using "root" as login. For password i just pressed "enter" and it wouldnt log me in.

Am i doing something foolish?
Can anybody help me?

Totally new to this.My ssh is working fine. But i still need to test telnet.

Thanks

Unfortunately, yes.
First, root does not make remote logins.
Second, telnet is totally hopelessly insecure, use SSH instead.
