Telnet Connection Failed

Good day,
I just setup a new box in Redhat 4.
However, the telnet services is very unstable. I can connect sometimes but after a while it will be automatically disconnected. Sometimes i can't telnet at all.
Btw, ping test to the new box is successful all the time... so i think it is not a network issue..
Can anyone teach me how to troubleshoot this error?
Thank you very much.

regards,
nick

The behavior you describe sounds as if your new Redhap box had the same IP address as another device on your network.

Hi Tbrand,
You are right. I ping the ip address again and found another pc is having the same IP. After remove the duplicate IP address, the telnet is working fine now!!!
Thank you very much for your help.
Have a nice day!!

nick

a few things to think about
rehl 4 is VERY VERY old the current it rhel6.1
buy a license for red hat and use the current

two ) Telnet is disabled on new operating systems and has been replaced with "ssh"
A secure shell .
Telnet is not secure and should not be used any longer

Good day John VV,
Thanks for your advises. I am aware of that however there are some applications build based on that old RH version by my vendor and it is not easy for me the change that...
Have a nice day..

nick
