Tear off menu in Gnome?

I use Gnome as root, but I have noticed that there is no
tear off feature in the menu. I like that Linux has that feature
but after changing some colors and themes to make Gnome
look a little better, its not there, not even in submenus.
I'm not sure if I even had it, I know KDE uses it, but its not on
their main menu, only the submenus.
Is there a file I can edit to make all the menus capable of
being torn off and kept on the desktop?

Yes, but firstly don't run gnome as root.

Tear off menus are a setting in gconf, so run gconf-editor and have a look around. The keys are documented.

dont run Gnome as root because its unstable or sucks or

Don't log in as root because stuff will break and it's insecure. Generally Linux software is written on the assumption that it will be run as a standard user.

Not running root permanently is a security concern... you might never know what you might accidently type....

rm -rf /home instead of rm -rf /home/yourlogin/somedir
or worst, rm -rf /

Basically creating a normal user prevents major cockups.
