tar -xjf patch-2.6.4.bz2 ...

I've been trying to export the patch and can't get tar to work on it. I've read the man pages and tried many variations of tar ... patch-2.6.4.bz2 and haven't gotten one that did something/didn't give errors. Thanks in advance for any help.
