You need to install a C compiler - gcc will do
Should be on your 2nd disc - or under the development section if using gui rpm util. This may be a pain to install as no doubt you will need to install loads of other packages before gcc will install (binutils etc) - just read the output from the rpm when you run it.

www.rpmseek.com may be handy if you need to find anything.

I did not find 'gcc' under the FC3 CD2. Is it under a different name?

Ok it's on disc 3 - sorry about that

mount /dev/hdc /media/cdrom
rpm -ivh /media/cdrom/Fedora/RPMS/gcc-3.4.2-.fc3.i386.rpm (or whatever version you have)
It will throw up dependancy errors - just install the packages it mentions (can go round in circles sometimes but you'll get there

Thanks! I think it worked.

Where does it install by default? Because I could not find pure ftp in the Application menu.

Had a look at the documentation

Code:
To launch the server, just type the following command:

/usr/local/sbin/pure-ftpd &

Try -

#ps aux | grep pure

This will list any running processes named pure* - see if it's listed there.

Find the conf files for it and make sure everythings set that needs to be set.

[cyberian@localhost ~]$ ps aux | grep pure
root 3262 0.0 0.2 5920 600 ? S 02:59 0:00 pure-ftpd (SERVER)
cyberian 3370 0.0 0.2 3964 652 pts/2 S+ 03:15 0:00 grep pure

Does this mean it is running? If so, I cannot see it anywhere on my screen. How do I call it up?

How do I make sure everything is set to that needs to be set?

Looks like it is running....
Best way is to read the documentation - without reading I'm guessing theres a conf file in /etc (or similar) defining default directory locations and the likes. Just tinker about with it and have fun
