tar ball locations
Hello everyone,
I know how to use tar to create, extract and view the contents of archives. I was just wondering where (what directory) people usually put their tar balls before they extract its contents. Is there a general place that most people put them? I am running SuSE 9.0 and generally install software as rpms via yast2, but occasionally I have to do it the old fashioned (but fun) way. Thanks for your time and your help! - Gavin :Pengy: |
I usually put it in ~/tarballs.

You can put them where you like. Any tarballs I download go in the "Downloads" directory, in my home directory.

Thanks, both of you. Yeah, I realize I can put them anywhere I want, but I thought maybe there was a commonly accepted place where most Linux users put them.
Have a great day and thanks for the extra-rapid replies! - Gavin |
