tape device testing enviornment

I will help my friend to fix the problem of tape device , I just would like to test the command before work in the production enviornment , would advise how can I have a testing enviornemt which simulate to have a tape device is mounting to the system ? thanks

Your question makes absolutely no sense. You're asking if you can have a Linux server to connect a tape drive to??

The answer is obviously YES...go build one, and connect whatever you want to it. Run whatever commands you want.

The question asked by the OP I assume is if there is virtual tape drive software to test backups without the actual hardware.

Yes, there is mhVTL (https://sites.google.com/site/linuxvtl2/). It only emulates a few tape drives and so do know if it is compatible with your backup software but would guess it works with mt and tar. It might help will not eliminate testing with the real hardware.
