Tape Backup with Tar

Hello All,

I am trying to restore specific files to a specific folder from the tape drive.

Let's say in the tape drive, I have:-

/dir1/dir1.1/files1...10a
/dir1/dir1.2/files1...10b
/dir1/dir1.3/files1...10c
/dir2/dir1.1/files1...10d
/dir2/dir1.2/files1...10e
/dir2/dir1.3/files1...10f

How do I extract the files1-10c to /var? Because the tape drive is in the production/live server, I do not dare to test a lot. I fear I might accidentally overwrite the production data. Please help.

Thanks.
