TalkingArch boot error: Cannot find kernel image

Not sure how different it is from Arch but I found TalkingArch for blind/visually impaired users and intend to dual boot it with the sonar distro.

When I try to boot it from USB (my only option as the CD-ROM drive is borked) I get this error message:
Could not find kernel image: /boot/syslinux/whichsys.c32
It's using syslinux v.3.86

From what I've read it needs syslinux v6 to run, and with the proper volume labeling. The TalkingArch installation guide assumes it will boot.

How are you creating the USB ?. Easiest should be to just dd the iso to the USB - can't see how you would get a syslinux issue.
