talk command not working


hello

i am connected to my friends linux box through ssh

i try to run talk by:

talk ethereal

(ethereal is his name)

and it says connection refused

how can i fix this?

It might be that your friend has turned off messages. Have him type in : mesg y
See if that was it.

we both typed it in,
but it dont work

it said something about talkd

imi guessing thats the daemon
so we thought we should run talkd

he typed in talkd
and he got "command not found"

any suggestions?

ya he did

but it didnt work
it still said "talkd: command not found"

Talkd runs in the background and listens for talk requests. You should have your friend start it up and then you can use talk to talk to each other.
