sysutils in Ubuntu

Hello,

I am "very" new to Linux as well as to this forum. I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 (as was told it is most newbe friendly to start with). I do have an issue making my USB modem work. I understand that this type of modem is "Unsuitable for Broadband" though I wish to give it a try before I quit and get different one.
I managed to install firmaware for this modem but issue I do have is when trying to run script file with sudo command I get :Bad interpreter: File missing. I suspect there may be need to make dos2unix conversion of this script though . Can anybody advice how to install this package?

thanks

"This Modem" or "USB Modem"isn't very descriptive as to the device you are trying to get working.. how about a manufacturer name and model number ?

or better yet, open a shell and type lsusb and post the output here..

What script file are you trying to run ? is this something you wrote yourself or that you downloaded from somewhere ?
How about copying exactly what you are typing and the error message and posting it here...
again not enough info, to tell what is going on..

Might want to give this article a read.. How to ask questions - RMS

So what exactly was the question about sysutils ???

Code:
Sysutils package info.

This package previously incorporated various small utilities:

 * bogomips - Shows the current bogomips rating
 * memtest - From userspace, test system memory for errors,
aka memtester. This is _not_ memtest86+ or memtest86.
 * procinfo - Displays system information from /proc, this also
includes lsdev for displaying information about installed hardware
and socklist for displaying a list of open sockets
 * tofromdos - Converts DOS <-> Unix text files via fromdos/dos2unix /
   todos/unix2dos, aka tofrodos

However, they have been split out into separate packages, so sysutils is just a
dummy package depending on these utilities (except for bogomips which was dropped)
to facilitate upgrades and eventually it will be completely removed.
