Angry system froze when I clicked Save for Calc spreadsheet, now the spreadsheet is gone

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and had 3 windows open: Nautilus, Firefox, and Open Office 3.2 Calc. I had been successfully building the spreadsheet for 2 days with data from the other 2 windows and diligently saving the document every several minutes.
Then, one time when I clicked the Save button in Calc my whole system froze with no keyboard or mouse response. I powered off the system and re-booted, but then found that my spreadsheet was gone. The icons in Nautilus and the shortcut on the desktop are still there but when I click them the Open Office splash screen shows for a couple seconds and then nothing else happens, the spreadsheet window doesn't appear. I also tried opening Calc and then then opening the doc from the Open button but nothing shows up on the unused sheet in the window. No error messages come up at all.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated as I lost 2 days of work put into that document.

Thanks Stringdude

Search for it on the openoffice's backup folder:

/home/"your user"/.openoffice.org/3/user/backup -> something like this.

Did you disable the automatic (temporary) backups?
