system.conf variables

Where can I find out what all the <busconfig> parameters mean in the etc/dbus-1/system.conf file.

Thanks

That file tells you where to start looking, as well as suggesting some search words to try in google:
Quote:

<!DOCTYPE busconfig PUBLIC "-//freedesktop//DTD D-Bus Bus Configuration 1.0//EN"

Thanks bigrigdriver, but this path does not exist! Do you know any other links? I will tty sticking some words into google as well.

A quick Google yields http://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/busconfig.dtd

You should probably fix the path to the DTD in your XML file, and make sure everything still works as it did, before going any further. Just in case this is some other version of the DTD.

Hope that helps,

Thanks rjlee, I have looked at this file you pointed to, I still don't know what each variable is for...is there an explanation anywhere for each of these?? This is just a list of ELEMENTS....

Thanks again

rjlee 07-02-2008 07:53 AM

It's not just a list of elements; it's also the attributes that attach to each element and the structure the elements go in.

Anyway, if you want to know how to edit the file then you might take a look at the dbus config on http://www.redhat.com/magazine/003jan05/features/dbus/

Thanks again for your reply.......I am looking at this file for the first time and as a Linux newbie I dont know what everything means. My DBus is not working so I am trying to modify various values in the system.conf file to see if any of them make a difference.

For example:
<type>system</type> - What other types are there..is it just system or session??
<!-- Run as special user -->
<user>messagebus</user> - What other users can I put in here??
<!-- Config files are placed here that among other things, punch
holes in the above policy for specific services. -->
<includedir>system.d</includedir> -What is this directory for??

and so on.....I looked at the link you suggested and I cannot find a good explanation of this file.

Thanks again for any help you can give.

Harry
