Sysmon widgets

Hi

Looking for recommendations, as there are a few I have seen.

Running Gnome. Just want basic sysinfo at a glance, a bonus would be to display current unread gmails!

Ok so I installed gDesklets as I saw some images which indicate it should do what I want.

Installed via Synaptic.

Now am I being stupid (probably) but!

1. I run the gdesklets-shell and it displays a rather lackluster selection of desklets. Fine. I choose the clock one and do File > Run Selected Desklet

Nothing happens.

2. I download a CPU temp desklet and install, all successful as far as messages go. However does not show up in the config tool!

Must be missing something here??
