Unhappy Syslog-ng eventlog error during compiling

hi
I'm trying to install syslog-ng 3.3 on ubuntu 10.04 by compiling from source.
but every time i run the ./configure command I get this error

checking for EVTLOG... no
configure: error: in `/syslog-ng-3.3.5':
configure: error: The pkg-config script could not be found or is too old. Make sure it
is in your PATH or set the PKG_CONFIG environment variable to the full
path to pkg-config.

I have already installed eventlog from the balabit website. i have tried everything and am still lost.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Welcome to LQ.

If you used plain './configure' for 'eventlog', it installs to /usr/local/.
The "package config file" : /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/eventlog.pc

To use an eventlog install in /usr/local/, you can do :
Code:
export PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/lib/pkgconfig/ && ./configure
.

Well, the most simple approach is to configure and install eventlog
with : ./configure --prefix=/usr && make && sudo make install

Then you should be sure that all *eventlog* will be found.
