syslog dump/clear/erase/de-bloat/wipe

My syslog file is 22 MB in just a matter of days. When opening the file with a viewer it will take minutes just to load. When this occurs, I select All, delete, and save.

My question is, can this be done automatically?

Thanks in advance!

Yes. Use the logrotate function. You can find out how the logrotate command works with:
man logrotate

I do not know where mandrake keeps their logrotate script. You can probably find it with:
find /etc -iname "*logrotate*"
