When I was using SuSE 9.1, there was an option to start a new KDE session via the "Start New Session" link on the k menu. This would bring up another X session, usually mapped to tty8 (CTRL + ALT + F8) or something similar. I found that to enable this, you have to edit the file '/etc/X11/xdm/Xservers' file and add some other lines so that KDE would see this and provide the link. I searched and searched, and I found 40 different ways on the syntax of the file. Can anyone provide a correct syntax of what these extra lines should look like? I know it's something like this(which I currently have on my system):
Code:
:0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 vt7
:1 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :1 vt8
:2 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :2 vt9
I have tried many of the variations on this that I have found(e.g. a "local@tty7" in the place of "local") but nothing has worked so far. I'm using the latest version of X.org, but it never worked before when I was using Xfree86 4.4. I'm using Archlinux with kernel 2.6.6.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
