Syncing Palm with J-Pilot
I have installed all of the J-Pilot software but still can't get my Palm to Sync. Any suggestions?

What error message do you get? If you don't get any try running from an xterm and seeing if error messages apear there.

By Xterm, are you referring to the X console? If so, what would be the procedure? I am still trying to digest giving commands...Thanks

Make sure that in File | Preferences | settings you have typed
/dev/ttyS0 in the serial port box. (Assuming it's serial port one you've connected to?) Then hit sync (on the desktop program - it's not like the Wind*ws version where you can just hit the hot sync button on the cradle). Once you've hit sync, *then* hit the hot sync button on the cradle and it should work. It seems like a pretty good package and if anything looks a bit nicer than the official Wind*ws software. :-) If that doesn't work, maybe you have a broken serial port? |
I have attempted this and also attempted it with /dev/ttyS1 with no success. I can still sync when I am booted in Windows.

Type "jpilot" and press return Attempt to sync Look in terminal for errors. |
When I typed in jpilot the message is: could not open /home/jd/ .jpilot/Saved Preferences.prc: No such file or directory.
But the jpilot window opens but when I attempt to Sync it does not work. I press the sync on the jpilot program followed by the hot sync button on the cradle. My Palm Pilot is looking for the desktop but cannot connect. Jpilot appears to waiting for the Palm to connect but without success. |

Sometimes I think "upgrade" means "degrade"... |
