Synaptic Package Manager missing

hello all,

Recently i installed debian lenny using 'Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.4 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD'.
During installation i was unable to select the ftp mirror.

Here are few lines from installer file,

"Nov 30 21:44:37 choose-mirror[12197]: DEBUG: command: wget -q http://ftp.iitm.ac.in/debian//dists/lenny/Release -O - | grep -E '^(Suite|Codename):'
Nov 30 21:44:37 choose-mirror[12197]: WARNING **: mirror does not support the specified release (lenny)
Nov 30 21:44:48 choose-mirror[12197]: DEBUG: command: wget -q http://mirror.cse.iitk.ac.in/debian/.../lenny/Release -O - | grep -E '^(Suite|Codename):'
Nov 30 21:44:48 choose-mirror[12197]: WARNING **: mirror does not support the specified release (lenny)
Nov 30 21:46:36 apt-setup: warning: /usr/lib/apt-setup/generators/50mirror returned error code 1; discarding output"

I continued with the installation and now after logging in I found Synaptic Package Manager missing.

Here is my source file:

# deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.4 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 20100131-18:53]/ lenny main

deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.4 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 20100131-18:53]/ lenny main

# Line commented out by installer because it failed to verify:
#deb http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main
# Line commented out by installer because it failed to verify:
#deb-src http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main

Please suggest.

Thanks in advance,
Anji

Lenny is pretty much obsolete at this point, have you considered using the current Squeeze release instead?

Anyway the specific answer to your question is to make a proper sources.list using a resource such as the following: http://debgen.simplylinux.ch/

Then you can install synaptic with "aptitude install synaptic".
