symbolink link problem - not getting executed

hi all,
i have mandrake 10 installed with windows 2000 on my comp. n i m executing 1 linux program on d:/ of windows from linux. in tht windows directory i type
Code:
./executable
instead of going there everytime, i created 1 "soft symbolic link" in my /bin folder:
Code:
ln -s ........[target]
first it was not allowing me to create one ....so i logged in as superuser n made a link. i tried to run it as a normal user:
Code:
./executable
it gave me an command not found error.
then i tried as :
Code:
executable
it gave me the following error:
./executable : You can run the executable with name `executable' only.

but when i made a soft link in my home directory "/home/ranger" it worked n i can run it as
Code:
./executable
i created "/home/ranger/bin"folder ....made a sym link in this bin folder....added this folder to path: but again the same problem as i faced it when made a sym link in /bin.

just tell me th reason n the solution for this.....

It sounds like a permissions problem. I assume you have the d:/... mounted in fstab so that it reflects under /mnt? Try changing the permissions cd /mnt/d:/ (or whatever the mount point is).. and do chmod a+x executable

The executable is owned by root and can only be run by root. My entry for fstab is;
/dev/hda5 /mnt/E: vfat defaults,umask=000 0 0
