Switching graphics adapters for Red hat in console

System installed: Pentium 4 HD 1 gig of ram, S3 trio 32/64 graphics adapter, 250 gigs HDD, Gigabyte MB.
OS version:Red hat 8.0 installing on a Microsoft virtual PC

Issue: I've reinstalled redhat about 4-5 times now, and everytime I keep picking a different display adapter but it never boots into firstboot without displaying the graphics all buggy and totally incapable of navigating the xwindows console. I think it's gnome by default. I also installed KDE as well, but I am unsure which one it attempts to bring up the login window in. I'm sure that there must be a way to switch to a different adapter choice, without having to reinstall windows time and time again. my name is Nanite and I'm a Redhat Noob, there I said it.

I realise that fedora is the better choice now, as it's basically the next version of redhat, however I would still like to install this as a virtual PC (This has worked before when I installed it as a generic video driver, but that just doesn't display very well at all). I just need to know how to change display adapters within a terminal window, and whether to do it from rescue or from boot?

Thank you

edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, Device section.

I gave up trying to get it working, so I just reinstalled it with 800x600 graphics support. The reason that microsoft virtual PC didn't run it correctly is that unless it's windows VPC, then it can't support 1024x768 with 32 bit graphics. This is no matter what display adapter you are using. It's a limitation by microsoft's virtual pc. The best bet is to install it first with the generic setup, so that it displays correctly, and then after it's all finished, change settings within xwindows, so that you can always revert back if it goes all buggy.

Thank you anyways
