Switching from Gnome to KDE Desktop

I just recently installed Linux and I'm new to the whole system. I have redhat 9 installed. For some reason it defaults to the Gnome desktop. At least it looks like Gnome. It has the red derby for the 'Start" button but it has the K programs and the K confguration tool. But this doesn;t seem to be the same Kdesktop I remembe seeing in the past. I've tried the startkde and desktop swicth manager but that doesn't work. I there something else I might be missing?
