Unix is an operating system (not a language) that Linux was originally based on.

As for, "Ubuntu and Linux" as other already said Ubuntu is Linux. It is like saying: The garage services Fords and cars.

Canonical (company behind Ubuntu Linux) can be partially blamed for this misunderstanding. They do their best to avoid using the word 'Linux' on their website.

What I'm looking for is something that will likely start with "Network controller". This is assuming you are trying to get a built-in wireless network adaptor to work?

yes I have a built in network adapter and I have output from the lci terminal. How do I get it on this forum?

If you can connect to the internet using Linux Mint then do so, log into this forum and paste the output of lspci between code tags.

The code tags are tags like this:

(your output goes here)
[/codee]
(just make sure to spell "code" correctly)

This makes it easy to read, and smileys and such don't get processed, so the optput isn't littered with emoticons.

I am still confused my output goes between the ellipses or the parentheses, do I type the word code inside the square quotes??

It seems your wireless adaptor is one of the troublesome Broadcom ones. If there is any way yo ucan wire your machine up to the internet just for a little while to install things it will be a lot easier. The Ubuntu forums seem to have lots of posts about such things of which and example is this:

I'm affaid that getting that kind of hardware to work in Linux is one of the remaining things which is still an issue.

As things stand your wireless will not work.
To connect to the internet without using wireless you would use an ethernet cable plugged into a switch or a router. How do you connect your Mac to the internet?
This does seem to be leading into the territory of making a list of lots of things to download onto your Mac and put on a USB stick to transfer to your Linux machine in order to get the internet to work. I'll let others post as they may have overcome these problems.

MAC is using wireless hot spot from phone..
