Run "nmap localhost" and look for swat.

one question here I downloaded the "Samba-3-Oalph22-1.i386.rpm" does this make any deference. Also the inetd.conf file is no where to be found do you have an idea where it could be

I looked in \ect but it was not there I also tried to make a file by that name and insereted this into it

swat stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/samba/bin/swat swat

this is what I read on one web page.

1. The rpm you installed is the 3.0 Alpha version, you should use the latest stable one, found here . use 2.2.8-1.

2. Redhat 8.0 uses xinetd, therefore the configuration file is xinetd.conf

Here is the fix

What you need to do is edit the hosts.allow file and enter SWAT:ALL

This is another one of those "annoying" linux things that just happen to leave out a small but crucial step on setting something up. You can further restrict the allow file after you get SWAT going.
