Swap question

I have 512mb ddr ram, I read somewhere to set your swap partition to 2x the size of your ram, which meant 256mb swap partition. Now I have 512mb ram, so should i have a 1gb swap partition or is that too big and just a waste of space?
Thanks

nah, forget that. only use what you think you'll need. that yardstick is from the times when it was either buying more ram or clothing your children.

5GB isnt too much.

But 512 MB swap partition is plenty unless you are running a public server.
