Swap partition size on a low spec machine ?

I have a Ubuntu box which I specifically use as a server to play around and experiment, so no X / GUI. It is a 500Mz machine with 128 RAM. I usually go by the rule of thumb that swap partition size should be twice the RAM. Currently I have set swap partition size to 384 Mb, however, a knowledgeable and respected member of LQ recommended that it should be 1GB. Would setting it to 1 GB give rise to a tangible improvement in performance especially considering that the machine is such an old low spec model ?

Regards,
Uncle

If it's got no X or GUIs, 256MB or 512MB should be OK, or leave it as it is.
