Suse v9.1 desktop resolution problem

Hey guys,

I just recently installed Suse v9.1 (Personal) on an AMD 2600XP with 512 MB RAM. Had a few problems but I am slowly getting the hang of it.

One problem I am having now is that I cannot change the desktop resolution from what Suse set it for during the install. When I go into the settings where this is done, I get only one choice in the drop-down for the resolution and also only one choice in the drop-down for the frequency. These are set at 1280X1024 for the resolution and 77 Hz for the frequency. When I click the drop-down arrow on either of these, there is no other choice and I cannot manually enter one. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I got tired of all the security and viruses on my Windows installs, so I am trying Linux.

-Alex.

You need to use SAX2 to select additional resolutions. If your Graphics card is only supported by OpenSource drivers, you need to know specific info about your setup (frequency output of your card, input for your monitor).

If you have proprietary drivers, then all you should need to do is go in and select the additional resolutions in SAX2. By default, many of the additional resolutions are left unchecked... You need to check them and then save and exit,... then restart the x-server.

Thank you. I am going to try that.
