Angry Suse or Mandrake On My iBook HOW??!!??

ok, I'm about as new as a newbie can be. Rather than spend time collecting all the scraps around the house to form a crash machine, I just want to load linux on my ibook. I have next to NO experience with linux thus far, and what few moments of interraction i DO have were on mandrake. I like Suse, and have heard a lot of good things about it, so until i hear otherwise i want to load one of the two. HOW??!?? I cant find a tutorial anywhere that makes this painless and even when i DO find one once i get into the public folders none of the filenames match up. HELP

ill be stickin around the forum for a while as the PC is busy downloading the mandrake 3 disc iso

BTW - the ibook is 14.1, 900 g3, 640 mb (512 is sdram), 60 gig
its an ibook version 2.3

THANKS

Sicks

I tried Mandrake on a dual boot and had some problems booting back to XP. Tried Suse and loaded it with no boot problems. I'm sure there are people that use Mandrake and Suse with success. This was my personal experience.

I do like Suse very much. Can't go wrong with Linux...

CD images for Mandrake 9.1 for the PowerPC (which is what an iBook is - do not the i586 isos) are available here: http://public.ftp.planetmirror.com/p...drake-iso/ppc/

This document covers the installation of Mandrake 8.2 on the PPC but 9.1 should be similar. It has links to other, more thorough, documents on installing Mandrake on the PPC.

That planet mirror link is actually what i allready have downloading on the pc. I figured i was on point with that one because it was the first i came across with the full iso's for download. figured it would make the install process a little bit easier.

Thanks much for the installation tutorial, big help.
