SUSE Newbie

I am trying different distos and the latest for me is Suse 9.1 PE. I really like it but am having trouble installing programs (This was KDE games). When I run ./configure I get the following message:

checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu

See `config.log' for more details.

What is going on? What does "No acceptable C Compiler found in $PATH mean?

Thanks for any help,

Rick

Suse personal has no compiling tools. Personal was intended as a small ready-to-use linux desktop system. You can have a grasp on what should be using a linux computer to do daily things, but you can't compile programs and do geek stuff on it.
Of course, you can install all needed tools. I mean, Personal won't install by default.

Suse Compiler

Thanks for answering. Will 9.1 Professional have it?

9.1 pro does have compiling tools as well as a big load of programs. Its a very comprehensive collection of software.
Why don't you try to install gcc in personal? Its quite possible. Go to rpm.pbone.net and search suse rpms. They exist and are a lot.
rpm.pbone.net (choose advanced search)

Thanks again for the reply. I'll give it a try.

I am using Suse personal right now, it took me some time to get all the libraries and applications that I needed to get it to the point to where I could install most appplications easily. The way to I was able to do so was from Suse's FTP site. They have all the packages you need, check it out.
