SuSE Linux Installation

I expect this question has already been asked/answered somewhere, but, sorry, I can't find it!
I am about to install SuSE Linux 8.1 as a first time Linux user. I want to install it to replace Windows XP.
The question I would like answered before I start anything is, do I remove all traces of Windows and its associated programs first?
If so, do I repartition the hard disk and let the Linux installation do the format, or what?
Any thoughts and advice would be most gratefully received...!!!
Many thanks.
JonnyL

Just leave it all alone. During the installation, you should be prompted to partition. Then, partition the hard drive as you want and let it format the partitions. TaDa

during the install, you will be prompted by disk druid...you can use it to format partitions, and in your case, wipe a hard drive clean. 1)wipe the hard drive 2) format main/ root partion, 3)format swap space. If the install doesn't work, don't panic: you can just boot and install again.
