The OpenSuse forums discuss this proplem here.
Basically, the correct syntax to install the kernel source is: zypper in kernel-source=2.6.25.16-0.1 (replace the source version with your own, which you can find out by running in a terminal: uname -r).

Do you already have the Acronis software installed, or is that the problem (you cannot install it yet)? To do an image backup with Acronis, you could use their live CD, which they call "bootable rescue media." In fact, that is the way I prefer to do image backups, as the filesystems are unmounted and so there are no possible conflicts. If you have Acronis installed already, you can use it to burn a "bootable rescue media" CD. Boot from this CD, select Backup functions, and then follow the prompts.

if this is OpenSUSE 11.2 -- it is VERY dead
-- SEE the "lifetime wiki page"
http://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime
opensuse 11.2 went "End Of Life" back in -- May of 2011

the current and only supported versions of OpenSUSE are 12.2 and 12.3

now
if this is NOT OpenSUSE but instead SUSE Enterprise Linux Desktop / Server ( SELD / SELS ) 11 service pack 2

That is supported but it is NOT opensuse
SELS and SELD are not "Free" you need a support contract

for OpenSUSE 11.2 there is NO new software ,most of the old repos are now dead and not online

that IS going to cause "zypper" to fail

some things can be ?? sort of ? , Maybe ? updated using "Evergreen "
SEE:
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Evergreen

but installing a supported version of OpenSUSE is the BEST option
OpenSUSE 12.2 or 12.3

2. Hi Beryllos
I have not installed acronis yet. I still have problem in installing acronis itself . I am using the 15 days trial version of acronis called
"Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Server for Linux"

3. Hi John,
Since I am using SLES (SUSE Linux Enterprise Server ) SP2 Is there any thing I can get support.

Thanks again
Pearl

i take it you did NOT buy the [b] required service contract

that opensuse repo WILL KILL a SELS install !!!
http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...openSUSE_11.4/
the OpenSUSE 11.4 rpms ARE NOT compatible with SELS11
the two can NOT be mixed !

likely you will need to do a new clean install of "SELS 11 sp2" and this time buy the support contract

now the sels "devel tools" is compatible
http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...cm/SLE_11_SP2/

if you are going to use SELS then buy the support contract
or
install OpenSUSE 12.2 or 12.3

I searched linuxquestions for "image backup" and found this thread which looks pretty useful:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...backup-848796/
A quick reading of that suggests that partimage and Clonezilla are good solutions.

I've also heard good recommendations for Bacula, though I am not sure it is the best ("quick or easy," as you wrote) for image backup.

(Sorry to admit, I haven't actually used any of these 3 packages!)

Last edited by Beryllos; 05-02-2013 at 12:03 AM. Reason: added Bacula
