SuSE Linux 9.3 mouse won't work

Hi - I'm very much a newbie with Linux. This is my first dabble into the world of Linux and after much tribulations, I've come up against a problem I (and a friend of mine who's a bit more experienced) cannot seem to get round.

I loaded Suse Linux 9.3 onto a new hard disk using the 5 disks downloaded from the net. When I power up the default user logs in and I am presented with a nice desktop screen. Nice. But the mouse doesn't work. So using the keyboard shortcuts, I enter into Yast, go through hardware and into mouse setup and choose the ps2 intellimouse option press the test button and, lo and behold, I have mouse function.

But ...

When I lock this user and log on as any other user, the mouse again does not work and the aforementioned process won't work either.

Am I missing something fundamental ? or do I need to setup this somewhere else first ?

If anyone can shed some light on this I would be most grateful.

Naethegolfer.

Dunno the answer pal, but I'm thinking "Is this as root, or as user" ? i.e. to do the YaST stuff (for which you'd normally have had to put your root password in), you might have to check that you've implemented the changes as root first (log out as user and back in as root in a gui) or just try doing "end session" in between. theres a few server related things that I've been trying that need that and after all, the Xorg.conf that runs the monitor stuff, keyboard and mouse, is part of the X server!

Sorry if thats a load of shite, but I can't think of anything else to suggest!

regards

John
