Suse ent 10 SP3 sometimes won't boot

hi I have Suse Ent 10 SP3 that when I reboot the server sometimes it won't... it behaves like this

up and running If I rebooted boots ok
so up and running again and If I rebooted again it won't from Hadr Drives

What I can check on my boot/grub?

why sometimes boots OK and sometimes does not

but the way I was thinking it was the HBA attached but I removed them

thanks a lot

Sounds like it could be a hardware fault.

Do you get any error messages?

When it won't boot can you describe what does happen?

What does 'HBA attached' mean?

Hi,

Sorry, but could you please be a bit MORE specific:
Quote:

Q: Do you have any idea what this "black screen with a Big Floppy image" might be? BIOS/firmware on your PC? Something else?

Q: Exactly what type and model# is your server?
Do you have the motherboard/system manual for this server?

Q: If your BIOS has logging, do you have it enabled?

Q: Exactly what architecture is your SuSE 10.3? Could you run "uname -a" and cut/paste the results?

Q: Do you have any colleagues (a system administrator, perhaps) who can help you troubleshoot?

Hi -

I asked five questions, you answered two of them:
Quote:
Q: Do you have any idea what this "black screen with a Big Floppy image" might be? BIOS/firmware on your PC? Something else?
Quote:
A: no clue.
Q: Exactly what type and model# is your server?
Quote:
A: IBM x3650 M2.

That led me to your post here, on the IBM Developerworks forum:

x3650 M2 installing suse Ent 10 SP3 - Red Hat 5.4
Posted: Aug 10, 2010 03:38:50 PM

hi guys
I kinda tired trying to install Suse 10 SP3 and Red Hat 5.4 on this system it just has network cables and cables fro KVM

what happens it server install OKs, but when I rebooted the first time it won't boot when it's supposed to load the OS it shows a black screen with a big floppy image saying to insert floppy and press F1

I have to press Alt-Cont-Del to reboot the server and it boots ok but I reboot again from OS it again shows the black screen
looks weird for me that I've tried 2 OSs and same issue I even remove the Fiber Channel Cards to avoid any conflict and still same issue

I got 2 other system that have windows 2008 working as expected
any idea?

Regards
Please do this:
1. Review the instructions for installing Linux on an IBM x3650 blade:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...x_on_x3650.htm

2. Provide more details on the steps you took "preparing h/w", checking "BIOS update", configuring RAID (if applicable), etc
<= All per the above instructions on IBM's support site

3. Let us know how the actual OS install went

One additional question:
Q: Do you have a support contract with IBM?

Thank you in advance .. PSM
