Suse & NVIDIA Graphics card problem HELP!

My system is :

Athlon 2000 processor
Asus A7V8X-MX-EAYZ Motherboard
512Mb PC2700 Ram
Asus V9520MAGIC/T/P/128M/A Graphics card

Please can anyone help? I have just migrated to Suse 9.0 Prof and this is a brand new PC that dual boots Suse/XP Prof via Grub. Suse will not operate my V92 internal modem, my keyboard has to be reset to UK keyboard each time I reboot but my biggest problem is the Nvidia graphics.

I have downloaded an NVIDIA driver : NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg1.run

I am scratching my head on how to install. Everytime I try and log into saX2 the screen goes black and I have to reboot. I have rebboted into safe mode and logged into saX2 and the same thing happens. The screen has also gone black when trying to configure my monitor in YAST.

I am at my wits end and being a Linux virgin I am at dead end. I have found Suse support to be fairly ineffective. My O/S is fresh from the latest DVD and I have not downloaded any updates as of yet.

If anyone can help me with the black screening problem I would be really grateful!!

Many thanks!
David

What you've probably done is set your monitor refresh rate wrong. You can fix by run xf86config (/usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config) and setting the refresh rate to something your monitor can handle.

You can also run sax2 from runlevel 3...I think it starts an x server only to test your settings in this case.
