suse 9 won't install b/c of SATA, I think

Hi,

I am trying to install SuSE 9.0 Personal. I can get past the installation selection screen and then it freezes up. I think that the problem is that suse doesn't support my IDE controller. The install CD works because I tried it on another computer that uses a Western Digital hard drive. So my question is where do I go from here.

I have seen several solutions; to mount an older hard drive that suse supports, compile the new kernel (which is probably beyond my capabilites), or update the drive(of which I could find none for my hardware). Any suggestions would be great, because I really want to get out of windows.

My hardware is straight from Dell with nothing fancy added:
Windows XP
Intel P4 2.8gig
BIOS: A07
1gig RAM
Seagate Barracuda 120gig drive (model ST3120026AS)
Intel 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controller
NIVDA GeFORCE FX 5200

This is tail end of the error detail I get from the installation screen:

p11x-4: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
ide1:BM-DMA at 0xffa8-0xffaf, BIOS settings Hdc: DMA Hdd: DMA
ICH5-SATA: IDE controller at PC1 slot 00:1f.2
ICH5-SATA:chip set revision 2
ICH5-SATA:100% native mode on irq 9
ide0:BM-DMA at 0xfeq0-0xfef7, BIOS settings hda: DMA hdb: pio
hda:ST3120026AS, ATA DISK drive
hdb:probing with STATUS(0x00) instead of ALTSTATUS(0x50)
hdb:probing with STATUS(0x00) instead of ALTSTATUS(0x50)

Thanks,
