SuSE 9: How to re-activate graphical bootup?
Annoying!
Through my *ahem* "educational process" of learning Linux (SuSE 9), I have managed to disrupt Grub in that it no longer boots graphically- - ugly text now..
Does anyone know how could I re-activate this nice looking feature?
Thanks

I think that you put splash=verbose on the kernel line in grub.conf.
Here is SuSE's explanation:
http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2003/0..._bootmenu.html
and here is a handy web page for a SuSE user to know. It is where you can search the SuSE support data base for problems with a particular item. I typed in grub and then chose the second problem entry.

As long as bootsplash is installed and properly configured, you should be able to do it with "splash=silent" in grub's menu.lst. This was probably mentioned on jailbait's link, but it was taking too long to load for me.
Personally I prefer the "ugly" approach...I like to know what's happening on my machine.

But installing Bootsplash alone wasn't enough! Is there some sort of software switch somewhere I need to flip to activate it?
Thanks folks

Yes. You need the "splash=verbose" parameter on the kernel line in grub.conf. Or maybe its "splash=silent" like mikshaw says.

verbose shows your boot progress as text messages...silent shows a graphical progress bar.
