Suse 9 how to apt-get with yast???
Well this, is a very basic question (I guess) i believe I already
know the answer but anyway, does anyone knows how to make suse 9.0 install programs and another things from the internet with Yast???, I have been trying to install a couple of things, but i am getting kinnda mad when i am asked to install more and more things, but, i believe its possible to make in the installation source a new installation source with a http addres or a ftp address but, when i try some of the ones that yast already uses for updates it just doesnt work, and doesnt let me install from the internet, In other ways, what i am asking is, that if its possible to make yast work like apt-get or something like that???? |
are the other things dependencies? also, you can use apt-get for suse...check this site...
http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ i only use apt-get now, i never use yast for installing new software... |
it's RPM based, i'm guessing that the reason it want's to install more and more is because it needs those things
(disregarding my opinion of RPM based installs) SuSE has the potential to be huge, but at the same time, if you are diligent and don't install everything then you should be fine. devel packages are often not needed, unless you intent to compile plugins for instance. Do SuSE users compile from source? i know that Yast has severe issues with wanting to install stuff it thinks you should have, even if you compiled a newer version from source. This is one of the main reasons i switched from it .... |
