SuSE 9.3 Internet Connection via USB 2.0

Greetings,

I've just re-installed SuSE 9.3 (64 bit) in an attempt to reconnect my cable modem (a Motorola SB5100 Series SURFboard). It worked on a couple of occasions before the re-install, however, after installing security updates, I lost the connection. The Ethernet jack on the modem appears to be damaged as it will not work with anything.

Are there any drivers out there? Every now and then, my system notifies me that it found the modem hardware, however, it does not appear to work after allowing YAST to run its course.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Please provide as many details as possible.

Thanks,

Scott

Looks like motorola officially supports linux, but unfortunately for you only through ethernet.

Luckily for you there are a lot of linux newbies with things called "winmodems" these are modems that use software (for windows only ) to run properly. They are usually internal PCI or external USB, but since there are so many annoyed people (and you said it worked before) a google search for winmodem drivers may yield some success. you could also search YaST (including descriptions and everything) for either winmodem or "sb5100" and things like that, it actually had my winmodem drivers on the disk.
